Hitchcock is deliberate with The Birds. He introduces the characters Daniels Brenner long before there's any movement. This increases the tension. Hitchcock did research in preparation for the film which focuses on the bizarre attack on herringwaters that smoked in Capitola (California) during the year 1961. It was believed that poisoning with diatoms caused the extreme aggression of the birds after they ate anchovies.
